Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Throws Meltdown Event for Students

October 03, 2019

Gives two students scholarships and donates to cheer squad

The Rock Hill graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated invested in the lives of Clinton College students and its programs during an event the organization hosted on campus in September.

Members of the Eta Alpha Omega chapter put together a Meltdown 2019 event as part of the organization’s HBCU for Life initiative. The Meltdown included an Italian ice truck, games, prizes and music. The AKAs hung out with the students, danced and even strolled on the yard.

“Our responsibility is to make sure that we give back to the community,” said Wanda Reid, Vice President of Eta Alpha Omega chapter. “We have all adopted an HBCU. Our adoption is here, Clinton College.”

But it wasn’t just about fun and games, the chapter also gave away two scholarships and made a donation to the cheerleading squad.

Freshman Brianna Gettys is studying Business Administration and is one of the students who received one of the scholarships from the sorority.

“The fact that I got it (scholarship) it took a lot of pressure off of my plate. I work back home in Charlotte and the constant back and forth is hard enough as it is. So, to have to keep that check to separate and save, it means a lot,” explained Gettys.

The AKAs plan to continue their support of Clinton College. They will be on campus for the first basketball games to cheer on our Golden Bears.
