(COVID-19) Community Update 3/11

March 11, 2020

Update Statement on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

To the Clinton College Community,

There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Clinton College campus. Clinton College leadership and the college’s campus safety committee have been meeting frequently to monitor and make plans for COVID-19 to ensure the campus remains safe for everyone. Our recommendations and decisions follow the guidelines from the CDC and the York County Health Department.

As stated earlier, there are no reported cases of COVID-19 at Clinton College but recently it was discovered that a group of about 20 people connected to the college traveled to New Rochelle, NY at the end of February; New Rochelle is currently under containment due to the rapid spread of coronavirus. Out of an abundance of caution, those in the group will self-isolate for 14 days from the date of potential exposure and will monitor their health for symptoms that include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

CAMPUS CLOSURE

Due to this update, and again, out of an abundance of caution, Clinton College will shut down the campus and administrative offices effective immediately until Monday, March 30th. Students who are able to are asked to move out of the residential halls by Friday afternoon; those who need accommodations need to contact their director of residence life.

VIRTUAL LEARNING

During this time, classes will not be canceled; instruction will be made available online. All faculty should be prepared to move their classes online or offer an alternative delivery by Monday, March 16th.

EVENTS

Clinton College has two major events scheduled for Friday, March 13th – Founders’ Day and the Sneaker Ball. Founders’ Day has been canceled and the highly anticipated Sneaker Ball will be rescheduled for a later time. All other events are also canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

CAMPUS PREVENTION

In addition, Clinton College has enacted additional cleaning protocols. The facilities team will focus their attention on cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, classrooms, desks, computers, doorknobs, doors, the cafeteria, and other common-use areas and high-touch surfaces.

The health and safety of our campus community is our top priority – we continue to urge good hygiene practices to reduce the chances of COVID-19 infection. The CDC recommends the following preventative measures:

  • Wash your hands with hot, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your mouth, ideally with an elbow, when you cough or sneeze.
  • Get a flu shot, not necessarily because it will prevent the spread of coronavirus, but so that you stay healthy and out of the doctor’s office.
  • And, if you’re not feeling well, stay home from work and get better.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of Clinton College.
