President McCorn's article on Dr. King is published in scholarly journal

July 13, 2021

An article written by President Lester A. McCorn is featured in the latest edition of Penumbra, the scholarly journal of Union Institute and University. This edition is dedicated to the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. The chosen articles were written by faculty, graduates, and students of the Ph.D. program associated with the MLK Legacy Studies Specialization. The article President McCorn wrote is entitled, “A Vision of the Promised Land: The Enduring Legacy of MLK’s Grassroots Campaign for Economic Justice,” and begins on Page 15.

" King had predicted that without a revolution of values, our nation would experience a moral crisis. We were becoming more obsessed with technology and the accumulation of wealth than the flourishing of human potential: "One of the great problems of mankind is that we suffer from a poverty of the spirit which stands in glaring contrast to our scientific and technological abundance. The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually" (King 2000, 181)."
