Rock Hill, SC (January 6, 2021) – The history and contributions of Clinton College are now available through The National Park Service after being recognized as part of the newly established Reconstruction Era National Historic Network. Clinton College was established in 1894 during the Reconstruction Era (1861 - 1900) – a time in United States history where slavery was abolished, and Black men were given the right to vote.
Clinton College is one of eight new community sites added to the network that includes several other Historically Black Colleges and Universities in South Carolina that were formed during Reconstruction. The site is managed by the South Carolina State Park system that interprets the stories of freedom, tenant farming, and schools that were created shortly after the Civil War to provide education to those formerly enslaved.
The Reconstruction Era National Historic Network is nationwide and allows visitors the opportunity to connect to the stories of Reconstruction. For more information, visit https://www.nps.gov/subjects/reconstruction/network.htm .
